We tried to flag them a couple times but to no prevail. The waitresses never even came back to ask us how things were. Sorry guys I try to be fair when giving my reviews but there really isn't a positive side to our visit. What a mess of a dinner! We won't be back to give a second chance of hitting us again. I did salvage the steak by taking it home, rinsing it off, re-seasoning it and putting it on a grill. My impression was that someone in the kitchen was trying to be fancy but messed it up completely and we as well as others that night paid the price. We couldn't even hear each other talking while we waited far to long for our meal. The atmosphere was kind of pub'ish and very load. Absolutely ruined a beautiful steak and a hope for that romantic dinner. Combined the two tasted way too earthy and greasy. I soon realized it was a combo of fried Brussel sprouts with a less than tasty sauce. I took my first bite of the steak and tasted something that was off palette. When we finally got the meal, and I do emphasize "Finally" as it took a long while, the plate look ample enough. to be a half tub of deep fried Brussel Sprouts I would have passed but no mention by the waitress. Thought this was going to be a special place to take my girl to a romantic dinner on Labor Day weekend. If all 4 meals were consistently delightful I may have said the quality is worth it (atmosphere is very nice), but with one average and one poor entree I'm not sure the final tab was fully warranted. Her sister-in-law's scallops were $39 for a not overly generous portion, and both fish entrees were in the high $20s. My wife's mac and cheese was very good, but still, it was just a bowl of mac and cheese for $18. No question Alchemy is a pricey night out. There weren't, but she was ready to move us quickly if need be. We opted to sit outside under a heater, and she warned us that there might be flies at that section of the patio. Given the mixed bag, my overall rating of the food was average even though some was excellent. We shared a piece of peanut butter chocolate cake and dulce de leche cheesecake for dessert. Had we not all compared notes after dinner and I wrote this review based only on my meal, I likely would have given 2 stars. It was overcooked to the point of being dry, chewy and flavorless. I had the barramundi, and was very disappointed. My wife's sister-in-law ordered the very pricey pan-seared scallops, and unfortunately didn't think there was anything special about them, although there was nothing wrong with them either. Her brother ordered the catch of the day, which was halibut, and found that also to be excellent, moist and flaky. Sounds ordinary, but she said it was delicious- rich and creamy with flavors of different kinds of cheeses (Gruyere was prominent) and smoky bacon. My wife ordered the mac and cheese with bacon. and the broiled corn gave it a pleasant nutty flavor. We started with something called Gold Nugget Bread, which is bruschetta with kernel corn and jalapeno. 2 excellent meals, 1 average meal and one not so good meal. My wife and I ate here last fall with her brother and sister in-in-law.
